Tamariki in tahi have been on a cooking spree over the past couple of months. Cupcakes in the sandpit, picnics outside with bags of goodies, coffees and cookies on an outdoor bench and so much more. Tamariki have been working together to make, create and "eat" food they have created together.

The sandpit has been one of the most popular places to make baked creations. Tamariki work together to fill their baking trays, pots, containers and anything else they can find. Once they are full they put them up on the shelf to sell to each other through the window of the sandpit.

The outdoor coffee and cookies has been another hit where tamariki have helped each other fill their cups and go around the playground handing out drinks to everyone.

We have now got a new play kitchen inside which tamariki are beginning to explore and experiment with.

Through these experiences tamariki are building and extending their relationships with others through verbal and non verbal communication, sharing, turn taking and helping each other to create baked goods. They are also learning to express their ideas and thoughts through imaginative play. This links to the communication and contribution strands in our preshool curriculum - te whariki.
