Cultural Day at BestStart Buchanans Road
Every year at BestStart Buchanans Road we have a special afternoon tea and concert for our whānau where we share some songs we've been learning to celebrate Waitangi Day and Chinese Lunar New Year. This year we invited our whānau along and we sang some waiata in te reo Māori and Chinese as well as performing our haka before we enjoyed some kai together.
As it is a Chinese tradition to give children the gift of a envelope which contain money and symbolise good wishes and good luck for the new year ahead, this year BestStart children received one of these red envelopes on the Lunar New Year with a chocolate coin inside to celebrate with our large Chinese community.
We had a lovely time celebrating these two special cultures together.
