Cultural Day at BestStart Epsom
At BestStart Epsom we have privilege to have children and whanau from different cultural background. We acknowledge and appreciate this cultural diversity by celebrating festivals from different cultures and organising cultural days occasionally. On everyday basis we play music and songs of Maori, waiata (song), and music from different cultures.
In mid-October, as part of holiday programme, we had a cultural day. We encouraged our tamariki (children) to come in their cultural costume or to bring any cultural artifact. It was a pleasure to see children dressed up in their beautiful cultural costumes and feeling proud to share it with their friends. To add more excitement and flavour to our special day, we had a delicious multicultural menu, which was yummy Udon noodles, yoghurt-mango lassi (Shake) and banana cake.
We believe that culture is a strong part of our lives and cultural celebrations foster respect and open-mindedness for other cultures. Children get exposure to different cultures when they experience the stories and symbols of their own and other cultures. Celebrating our differences, as well as our common interests, helps unite and educate us.
