In Beststart Montessori Rongotai we have such a lovely group of tamariki from all over the world we have such a big group of diversity when it comes to culture so throughout the year we are always celebrating the different events for each of our whanau cultures like samoan language week tongan language week and many more.
But this event was special as we got to celebrate everyone and come together and talk and eat.
As part of celebrating our diversity in our centre here at BestStart Montessori Rongotai we make it our mission to do events every couple of months to also encourage new whanau to join in be apart of our community.
Moira our head teacher set up an event for all whanau to join us and bring a plate of food from there culture as well as if they wanted to share some facts, a song, dance or item from their culture as well. So we were very lucky with our whanau who came as we had a variety of foods from different cultures we had some Indian food some Japanese food, some Fijian and Samoan food.
All the tamariki loved trying all the different foods. This helps tamariki develop more knowledge on countries and cultures around the world and specifically what whanau we have in our centre. We also had an art activity for our tamariki to be apart of this was having handprints around the world so we can see we are all in this together.
