Here in Botany Junction, we value continuity of learning the different cultures, learning the diversity of the languages we speak and the depth of meaning words can carry in our communities. In October we were back in our centres and doing the tings that make us happy and matter the most. Our tamariki celebrated Fijian Language week where our happy teachers created a happy Arataki room that promoted a positive environment, our children learnt to socialise and communicate especially wearing Fijian sulu (a piece of cloth wrapped around ) and dancing to Fijian musical beats with lots of Bula Vinaka smiles.

Halloween brought so much fun to our children’s learning as well as all of us turned up on the day in our favourite costumes. Back and forth conversations, across all activities our tamariki continued to communicate with others as the environment was covered with cobwebs and Halloween creative artwork.

The Last week of October was the Diwali celebration and another flash of delight as colourful lights lighted up our environment. Our tamariki became investigative and excited, took a little practice to get used to lighting the lights every morning. This was such an authentic connection to our Indian community as we all promoted inclusive practices, respecting the diversity of the language and culture of all our learners.
