Culture, Language and Identity
Over the past year we have been investigating Culture, Language and Identity within our centre and how we can use it authentically and with meaning in our documentation and day to day learning opportunities. It has been an exciting journey full of lots of learning for everyone. This month to celebrate and close it off we had a Family Fun Night to share the findings and encourage our parents and whānau to share their family history with us. Families were very creative in how they shared this information with us ranging from pepeha, mihi and family trees. Each one is a unique celebration of their whānau identity and we look forward to using them in the classrooms with the tamariki. Kaiako are excited to continue this practice with new and existing families that are a part of the BestStart Paraparaumu whānau.
