Cupcakes for a Cause
As part of our Plunket Week fundraiser, tamariki in tahi helped make and decorate cupcakes for our bakesale. The first step was to make the cupcake batter. Tamariki took turns adding ingredients, mixing the batter, and adding food colouring to our mixture. They watched and learnt about how adding food colouring to the mixture can change the colour of the batter. Next, it was time to spoon the batter into the casings. All tamariki involved had a chance at scooping some mixture into the cupcake trays ready to be baked. The last step, and arguably the most fun, was the decorating stage.
Tamariki helped Kaiako to create red and blue coloured icing and set it up along with sprinkles to start the creative process. Each child was able to decorate their own cupcake masterpiece using a mixture of coloured icing and sprinkles. Tahi’s cupcakes were a huge hit at our centre's bake sale and with our tamariki’s families. As a centre, we raised over $446.00 for our BestStart Blenheim Central Plunket Appeal. Through this experience, tamariki are learning about the process of baking, following instructions, sharing, taking turns, and working together to achieve a goal while having lots of fun along the way! They are also able to express their ideas and creativity through the decorating process all while supporting such a deserving charity.
