Over the past few months, our tamariki in BestStart Pharazyn's Whakapuawai Room have been learning about different types of bugs and insects.

Observing the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly and even witnessing how it hatched from the chrysalis was a highlight.

The tamariki continue to investigate, learn the name of the insect, care for the well-being of living things and discover how nature works through curiosity and taking an interest.

It is so amazing how the parents and whanau are actively engaging in the project to support the children's learning by bringing in insects that they have caught at home or visiting their local Weta museum.

To extend this learning and interest, we took our toddlers on a trip to Percy's Scenic Reserve for bug and insect hunting. It was indeed a great experience for our tamariki being out exploring the real world and discovering what is in our local community.
