In the Maui Street toddlers room, our tamariki are constantly immersed in exploration.

Their natural curiosity drives them to investigate the world around them, and we see this every day as they engage with their environment in meaningful ways.

Whether it's discovering textures, experimenting with shapes, or playing alongside their peers, our children are learning through active involvement. Exploration is more than just play, it’s the foundation for developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Outdoors, tamariki enjoy interacting with natural materials, observing how they feel, move, and change. Indoors, they dive into imaginative play, often transforming everyday items into extraordinary creations. To support this learning, we’ve thoughtfully set up different areas of play throughout our room. One of the most loved activities involves using recycled boxes and tubes for construction.

It’s incredible to watch the children collaborate, plan, and build, turning simple materials into towers, tunnels, and vehicles. This kind of play not only sparks creativity but also encourages teamwork and resilience. Water play is another favourite. With sieves in hand, our toddlers scoop, pour, and experiment with flow and texture.

These moments are rich with sensory learning and scientific discovery, all wrapped in joyful play. And then there’s the light box, a magical space where cardboard cars zoom across illuminated surfaces.

This area invites children to explore light, shadow, and movement, adding a new dimension to their imaginative adventures. Every corner of our room is designed to inspire curiosity and support development.

At Maui Street, we believe that when children are actively engaged in their surroundings, they thrive, and we’re privileged to witness that growth every day.
