The nursery tamariki have been delighting in their senses. On this occasion the kaiako had made an array of lemon essence water and frozen it.  Each tamariki was intrigued watching the frozen ice pop out of the containers giving off a strong sent of citrus in the air around them.

Using great hand eye coordination to grasp the slippery cubes in their matimati everyone reached in to the trough.  The first reactions were to drop them as the ice was cold and drippy, before picking them back up and having a taste.  There were many faces of curiosity, sourness and delight as each tamaiti explored the taste, texture and smells in this activity.

Kaiako spoke with the tamariki about how the ice melts in their warm ringaringa and how the darker yellow cubes have a stronger smell and taste of lemon.  The tamariki enjoyed the ice then changed direction to splashing in the melted water afterwards.
