Demonstrating Manaakitanga
Here at Best Start Te Whariki Nursery, we promote the nga tamariki independence abilities as well as their empathy and care for others. Our tamariki are learning how to be kind and caring towards each other as well as supporting our younger tamariki, supporting their physical and emotional needs. Recently our older tamariki have been demonstrating tuakana/teina | caring for the younger tmariki and helping them with bottles, bringing them toys to play with and sometimes just lying down beside them and having a korero | conversation. We are noticing a great amount of care from an older tmariki who are aware when any of our younger tamariki need emotional support. They are demonstrating empathy by asking if they are ok or just rubbing their back and also bringing them a book. As Kaiako we are constantly supporting their needs and role modelling these emotions. We see love, care, empathy and kindness from our older tamariki, demonstrating a caring and nurturing environment by all.
