Developing a strong sense of belonging
In the Koru Room we have started the year with a focus on developing a strong sense of belonging for the children, building relationships and settling into the routines and rituals, with an emphasis on preliminary skills to set us up for a great year.
A main focus and interest for the tamariki has been them extending on with their independence skills and contribution throughout our indoor and outdoor environments. We have been supporting them with this by offering and allowing them to help out with our day-to-day jobs, they are now offering to help us with these without us initiating it.
It has been so nice watching their skills grow and seeing how much they love to help us out and contribute to our environments. Maria Montessori says "that caring for the environment fosters love for the environment, helping children connect and engage with nature, and encourage the child to interact with the environment, exhibiting respect and love."
