Developing independence
One of the cornerstone of Maria Montessori’s philosophy is independence. We believe in having a child do things for themselves in his own pace and space, to acquire knowledge and experience the world through his own efforts to reach their full potential. Our goal is to answer the child’s desire to “help me to help myself”.
Children are active learners at BestStart Montessori Otumoetai. They are involved in preparation of food, unpacking groceries and cooking.
Self care skills like dressing themselves, putting shoes on, looking after their belongings are the work of the children alongside the support from the teachers. Children also work with experiments and projects which builds on their knowledge of working theories.
