Dinosaur Forests
The tamariki (children) in our rākau room have been engaged in a dinosaur learning project – this moment was a beautiful example of this ongoing learning extension that was.
The kaiako (teachers) provided sand, branches and tiny dinosaurs and began with one provocation – propping a branch into the sand.
The tamariki took the lead and play from here – they created an intricate ngahere (forest) for their Dinosaurs and added to the idea – carving rivers and caves, pouring water around the edges and watching it flow throughout their motu.
The tamariki navigated a small physical space and limited resources beautifully – collaborating in their project and extending on their own learning as a team.
