We believe that their play is valued as meaningful therefore we decided with our children to create a ‘Dinosaur Kingdom’, a lot of conversations took place with our Tamariki as they shared what they wanted in their space. As our Tamariki continued to share their ideas our dinosaur kingdom started to come to life. We created a waterfall, lava, plants, and a cave. Our Centre Manager Preeti bought new dinosaurs for us to use in our Dinosaur Kingdom. We have also extended this into other areas such a drawing, painting, finding bones in the sand, sharing of books and names of the different Dinosaurs.

A couple of weeks later we went into remote learning from home. Our Kaiako Amanda set up an activity where she showed our Tamariki how they could make their own dinosaur and dinosaur cave at home so that their interests continued even while being at home.

Now that most of our Tamariki are back our dinosaur kingdom is busy once again and we have gained some new dinosaur family members as they have found a home with us in our Toetoe Dinosaur Kingdom. This space is not only for our children but also for all our whanau to come through and see our children’s learning.
