Dinosaurs at BestStart Wainoni Road

Here at BestStart Wainoni Road, our prep room tamariki have taken a step back in time as they have become fascinated with Dinosaurs. Learning about these incredible creatures sparked nga tamariki's imagination, curiosity, and endless learning opportunities.

We began our quest for information about Dinosaurs by asking our tamariki what they already knew and what they would like to know. These two questions created a lot of conversations. We encouraged them to research alongside the kaiako and find out answers to their questions. The teaching team have been creating intentional teaching experiences that engage our learners, get them to use their imaginations, and strengthen their critical thinking skills.

Tamariki were all eager to go on a fossil hunt. From this activity, tamariki wanted to know if they could make their own fossils. This topic has sparked the investigation process and set them up for their next learning adventure at school. Our whanau gave us feedback about how our tamariki shared their dinosaur learning at home. Through these conversations, we have noticed some excellent links between centre and home learning. Our dinosaur topic has enhanced our daily conversations, as tamariki and kaiako are excited to share what has been happening throughout the day and what they learnt.
