Diwali – A Day of Light, Colour and Community

We recently celebrated Diwali at Montessori Otumoetai and it was a truly joyful and memorable day for our entire community.

Families came together for a meaningful mat time where those who celebrate Diwali shared its significance, helping everyone understand the traditions and stories behind the Festival of Lights.

Children came dressed in vibrant traditional attire, filling the room with colour and excitement. Our learning space was beautifully decorated with bright colours to reflect the joy and light of Diwali.

We then gathered for a delicious shared morning tea featuring an incredible spread of curries, roti, biriyani, samosas, jalebi, rice pudding, and more. It was a feast that brought everyone together and celebrated the richness of culture through food.

Throughout the day, families joined the children in creating stunning Rangoli designs and applying Henna art, adding even more colour and creativity to the celebration. These hands-on experiences allowed children and families to connect, create, and celebrate side by side.

We’re so grateful to all the families who contributed and participated. Celebrating Diwali together reminded us of the importance of inclusion, connection, and community. It was a wonderful celebration filled with culture, community, and togetherness.

Your support and participation made the day so memorable.

Happy Diwali to all who celebrate!
