This week I facilitated this art experience for our tamariki/children based on Diwali as we are currently celebrating this festival here at kohanga/preschool. During Diwali it is common to see lit diyas around as they represent enlightenment, knowledge, wisdom and mana.

To allow the tamariki to create their diyas I gave them a plastic plate that I had cut in to the shape that resembles the diya. I then placed toru/three different colours of paint on the tepu/table, these were tawa/purple, kowhai/yellow and kahurangi/blue.

The tamariki/children have lots of fun torotoro/exploring as they created their masterpieces.
