Happy Diwali! Diwali is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year. The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (diya) that Indians light outside their homes to symbolize the inner light that protects them from spiritual darkness.

Here at Kelvin Grove, we have enjoyed celebrating Diwali by creating a gorgeous Rangoli to represent the happiness, positivity, and liveliness of our centre. Rangloi is intended to welcome Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and good luck. Loriza has shared some of her outfits and jewellery with the tamariki. She has also created henna designs for the children as part of our celebrations.

The tamariki have enjoyed learning about and decorating diya. Everyone dressed in bright colours to celebrate the occasion. Our vision is "At one with child, whānau, and community". We provide an environment that invites, acknowledges and celebrates the culture, language, and identity of all. We value inclusiveness and ensure equitable opportunities for participation and learning. Celebrations such as Diwali provide us the opportunity to see our values in action.

One of our centre values is Individuality - Mana; where children feel confidient to ‘Bring with me my whānau, and my strengths and expertise’.
