Diwali!
Diwali in the prep School This week we celebrated Diwali in the Prep School. Two of our beautiful Indian tamariki came dressed in their sarees to show all of their friends! They looked absolutely stunning. Our Kaiako, Hazel read a story at mat time about Diwali and the importance of this celebration.
This is important to us here at Silverstream as we have many whanau who celebrate and acknowledge this special time, so of course we want to as well. During this mat time we learnt about the festival of lights, being kind to one another and always choosing light over darkness. This links in so well with our prep school values of being kind, caring and respectful to others always.
Hazel then set up a colouring and collage station linking to Diwali where our children could create their own lantern, colour them in, and cover with shiny resources symbolling the lights. These creations were beautiful! We love learning about our whanau cultures, traditions and important celebrations. This allows us to get to know everyone on a deeper level, and build strong relationships where we can ensure we are creating the best learning space for each and every individual child!
