Diwali Celebrations at BestStart Bay Kindy
This was a great opportunity for some of our tamariki to make connections with whanau and their cultural identity. Kaiako all dressed in cultural dress also to be a part of the Diwali celebration.
Whanau were invited to come and have lunch with tamariki and partake of some yummy Indian and European morsels, to not only celebrate Diwali but to Celebrate our new teacher Fatama. During eating this yummy lunch there was a lot of fun talking and getting to know each other and having a laugh or two. The weather was so beautiful that this allowed a great photo opportunity for us at Kindy to get some lovely pictures of nga tamariki in their cultural dress alongside of their parents. Preetiben one of our parents happily put her hand up to do some Heena art on our Centre Manager Kat's hands. Kat loved the experience so much as the Henna that Fatama provided was instant and did not require any drying. Preetiben said she loves drawing with Henna and said she would be happy to do more in the future.
The Celebration of Diwali was a humbling experience for us Kaiako as it allowed us to gain a further respect for our Indian families and learn more about this celebration and what meaning it has to them.
