Do boxes make good boats?
At BestStart Foxton Beach we don't let bad weather get in our way! After the nights rain we decided to go outside and see what our environment looked like. We discovered huge puddles and of course they needed to be stomped in, driven though and coloured. Zach, Carter and Robert went to get some boxes (boats) to see if they would float. They did but had leaks, they tried the other puddle and still had leaks. They taped bits up and tried again, no luck and then they discovered the boxes were going soggy. Every fail has amazing learning outcomes for children. As teachers we never make predictions for them or direct their thoughts, this is to encourage perseverance and problem solving. There was huge amounts of both of these things. They discovered what water does to paper, what can and can't float, how to fix leaks and how to collaborate with others.
