Dramatic Play
Role play allows children to make sense of the world around them through their play. It has become a very big focus in our Nursery recently. Earlier this month we had a digger in the playground doing some yard work. The children were very interested in this which sparked off some imaginative play exploring the toy diggers and trucks in a variety of ways, both inside and out, as well as the construction hats. To help extend this interest further, we went on a small excursion down the road where we were able to watch some much bigger diggers and even dump trucks in action.
Many of our children have been enjoying whanau play, cuddling dolls, carrying them around and putting them into bed. We have extended this through providing doll prams, a child sized front pack, dress ups, handbags, bathing the dolls and so much more.
Our new tea seat has been very popular and a wonderful way to extend this play, the children are “feeding” the dolls in their high chairs, as well as having tea parties with water play alongside their peers.
We are really enjoying watching our tamariki shine as they explore and imitate what they have seen those around them doing.
