Here at BestStart Omahu dramatic play has been a huge focus for our tamariki. Dramatic play weaves through a wide range of experiences, for example: hairdressing, cooking, firefighting, family play, nurses and doctors just to name a few. Dramatic play is where children pretend to take on a role of someone else that promotes expressive language as they are inspired to communicate with those around them, whilst bringing links and connections from their home life - a home away from home.

Our friends have such amazing imagination... they were preparing kai (food) and a hangi, fixing each other's mamae (sores), creating a salon and so much more. The beautiful and rich conversations that happen are so valuable for children's speech and social development, moments like these play an important part in setting our tamariki up for success for school and beyond.
