The caterpillars and butterflies have become such a huge interest! We have been doing a lot of observational drawing of the caterpillars on our swan plants and even drawing Monarch butterflies too.

As our tamariki lead the learning on this has provoked some great discussions around what the butterfly lady talked about.

These guys remember the small but important details like...to tell if its a boy caterpillar they have a black spot on the bottom wings and the girl butterflies have darker veins on their wings.

The caterpillars have feelers on both end of their bodies so they can feel if there are any predators around. We had small groups of children sitting with each other and creating some amazing art work...these kids can draw!!!
