Here at BestStart Puni Road the children had the opportunity to draw their own Tiki.  I printed off two different pictures for them to choose from and they then looked at the pictures and drew what they saw on their own pieces of paper. There was a lot of interest in this and the children displayed a lot of concentration throughout the process of drawing their own Tiki.  I’m very proud of the children for not only wanting to draw their own Tiki but how they worked alongside each other and the effort they put into drawing them.

When children experience an environment where they experience the stories and symbols of their own and other cultures, they become increasingly capable of recognising print symbols and concepts and using them with enjoyment, meaning and purpose. They also enjoy hearing stories and retelling and creating them.
