Eid Mubarak Everyone!
On Wednesday the 5th of June we celebrated Eid at BestStart Manukau. Our tamariki were so excited to learn all about Eid and to join into the festivity. It was nice to see some of them arrive in their cultural attires. We started the day with a morning mat time and showed the tamariki pictures of how everyone celebrates Eid all around the world and showed them a video which explained why Eid is celebrated by the Muslim people each year.
Our heartiest thanks to Basira (Setayesh’s mum) for coming in during the morning to make sweets with the children. The tamariki thought they were really yummy at afternoon tea time and just couldn’t have enough of it.
During the day the children helped to make some Eid decorations for the room as well. They enjoyed decorating the moon and stars and the greeting lanterns with different coloured glitters. All the girls surrounded the table where henna designs were being done. They were captivated with the lovely henna designs and waited patiently for their turns.
We absolutely loved celebrating Eid in our centre! Our tamariki were able to learn about another culture and enjoyed the range of activities provided to them throughout the day.
