In BestStart Manuroa (Matai), we are focussing on developing children’s language through celebrating different cultures and whanau engagement.

Our “Diwali Celebrations” was one of the most engaging family events we have each year. This year we invited all the families to come in their cultural outfits to celebrate. They all showed up excited to see their children perform. The children practiced throughout the week and were all so happy to see all their families come and watch them dance and sing. The highlight of the day was the parent/whanau’s performance in their own cultural outfits which they did in front of the children, parents, and teachers.

Families had the opportunity to come together to celebrate, enjoy cultural food and socialize with each other creating more connections in the learning community. Families learned more about “Diwali” and its meaning and significance.
