April into May we have been looking at the emergency services in our community. We were fortunate to have visit from our local ASB St John community educator. The children were introduced to the preschool module offered by St Johns, How to Respond in an emergency! Over the session our preschool and prep room engaged through games, discussions, and active exploring in topics that included different emergency services and understanding their different roles, keeping ourselves safe and what protective gear ambulance officers wear or use to keep themselves safe, they also learnt about the sirens and light and why they were important features of the ambulance.

At BestStart Allenton we are very fortunate to have a St Johns First Responder on our team Terri, who is one of our Prep room teachers. To extend our children further Terri kindly arranged for an ambulance to come to the centre for the children to explore. We revisited the safety equipment from our previous session, and of course the lights and sirens too! Each of our four rooms jumped on board with Terri to see just what happens inside these amazing vehicles.
