The Pukeko room is our toddler room at BestStart Russell Street. We encourage independence and self help skills through supporting the children to dress themselves, feed themselves and doing their own dishes after meal times.

Our room has a lot of routines but we move at our children's pace. If they are not ready to do something we will give them the time and space until they are ready.

Learning to share and having fun is a daily focus. We have a lot of free play for the children to explore both our inside and outside environments with their friends.

Music and movement are daily activities and all the children have their favourite songs that they like to dance to.

We do monthly excursions where we take a van and 6 children on trips. These include going to the park, the airport, Te Manawa and the supermarket.

We have achieved the Silver level in The Healthy Heart Award and provide healthy and yummy snacks for morning and afternoon tea.
