Encouraging Rangatiratanga
At BestStart Montessori Johnsonville we encourage rangitiratanga as the older more experienced children take on lead roles.
Today at lunchtime a group of children felt they were ready to eat earlier than some of the others.
They talked with each other about where they were going to sit and then washed their hands. They gathered their lunchboxes and then sang a hearty karakia. Having had a child called Mia in the classroom means the children need to work a little on their pronunciation as it is mihi kia rangi not Mia kia rangi, but we are celebrating their joy and manakitanga towards each other.
