Engaging with our Community

1

Trips to places outside of our early childhood centre can provide children with new experiences and increase their understanding of the world around them, as well as supporting children to become more confident in social situations. This week our oldest learners went on a little stroll to our local school to see one of Kaikorai Valley College's annual productions - "The KVC Buccaneers - Sail the Southern Seas". There were so many interesting things to look at on our way to Kaikorai Valley College. We waved and smiled to the people on bikes, in cars, we were even lucky enough to see some buses and big trucks. When we arrived at Kaikorai Valley College, we quietly made our way into the school hall and took our seats. We sat on the edge of our seats with anticipation, and couldn't wait for the show to start. It was so exciting as different schools arrived and began entering the school hall. We couldn't believe how many people we seen who we knew, and loved being able to wave and say hi to them. We had such a great time at the production, and have come back to our centre with lots of questions to explore about buccaneers, pirates and being at sea. It has been amazing to listen to all the discussion the children have been having with their kaiako, friends and families .... some children even suggesting for their parents to go and see the "Pirate show", with some children being lucky enough to catch a second show with their loved ones. Thank you so much to the amazing Kaiako at Kaikorai Valley College for inviting us, we loved it!!!
