Exploration of textures on our senses
With such gorgeous weather last week, we were able to get a little more creative with our messy play and how we feel textures on our body. Setting up along the path, we created a sensory walk that enabled the tamariki to take off their shoes and feel the textures between their toes.
This drew the attention of many tamariki from all classrooms as we came together to explore our senses. The tamariki were so respectful in their engagement as they took turns and took very good care of the resources. When it came time to put shoes and socks on, we further took this as a learning opportunity as all tamariki tried to put their shoes and socks on themselves, with kaiako helping where needed.
After we were ready for the next adventure, we took advantage of the sensory set up and turned them into habitats for our big animals.
Learning gained:
» Curiosity about the world and the ability and inclination to share interests with others.
» Use of all the senses and physical abilities to make sense of the world
» An understanding that trying things out, exploring, playing with ideas and materials and collaborating with others are important and valued ways of learning.
