In Mahuri room our current programme planning is around dramatic play and we can see the tamariki engaged through active exploring which helps children learn through curiosity and inquiry. Learning through exploration as a process changes the way one approaches a particular situation. Indeed, one can assert that it is the most effective way of learning.and we can see the children asking questions and being involved. It is also well documented, that young children are more likely to experience success in learning to be literate when kaiako, children's families, and the wider community have a shared understanding about what literacy involves, what aspects matter most, and what is valued by everyone. We therefore communicate regularly with our whanau through storypark,face to face and through our amazing events and learn more about their hopes and dreams for their tamariki. Having mixed age group supports us kaiako to have a more inclusive programme throughout our day where tamariki have equal opportunities to participate, ask questions, suggest ideas and just have lots of fun. Our families and children know that they belong here and that they are celebrated each day through our rituals of meet and greet each day and provide feedback as well to the whanau.
