Exploring Different Areas of Play at BestStart Avondale
Children at BestStart Avondale have opportunities for active exploration and creative expression with the support but not the interference of teachers (kaiako). They are encouraged to develop skills at their own pace and understand their own abilities and limitations.
Teachers wait for children to indicate that they need assistance rather than assuming they do.
Children are encouraged to feel comfortable saying "I don't know" and risking failure. They are encouraged to talk about their play to develop reflective skills.
Teachers also sensitively engage in the extension of children learning through play by providing learning experiences according to their age, interests and document children's learning journeys.
