As children draw, paint and make collages, they are learning about their world (colors, shapes, and sizes of objects. Art is very important to young children. It gives them a way to let out their feelings and ideas. For young children what they are always doing is most important not what they make. Through art, children use their creativity to plan, design, and construct an idea. They experiment with form, line, movement, shapes, and spatial relationships. They learn science and math skills as they manipulate materials.

The children explored the natural materials collected such as woodblocks, pine cones, and leaves for their sensory play.

Loose parts are excellent at drawing out a child's imagination as they inspire children to practice creative thinking in sorting out how to incorporate the part into play.

Natural resources allow children to be resourceful and sustainable through finding ways to recycle, reuse, and repurpose items in their play. This provides opportunities for children to problem solve and is creative in ways that develop their respect for the environment and thoughtful use of limited natural resources and sustainability
