In the Preschool room, every day is an opportunity for our tamariki to learn through play, exploration and meaningful experiences.
This term, we're focusing on strengthening early numeracy and writing skills to help children build confidence as they prepare for school.
Numeracy is naturally woven into our daily programme. Through routines and play, tamariki are learning about the days of the week, months of the year, seasons, parts of the day and simple clock concepts such as o'clock times. They also develop mathematical thinking by counting, sorting, recognising patterns and shapes, measuring during cooking and comparing sizes. These experiences encourage problem-solving and help children see how maths is part of everyday life.
We also provide daily opportunities for early writing through drawing, painting, mark-making, recognising letters, writing names and sharing stories. Every scribble and mark is celebrated as an important step in developing communication and literacy skills.
Guided by the principles of Te Whāriki, our programme values each child's unique learning journey. These learning experiences also support Te Whare Tapa Whā, nurturing children's overall wellbeing by strengthening their confidence (taha hinengaro), encouraging positive relationships with peers and teachers (taha whānau), promoting active participation through play (taha tinana) and fostering a strong sense of belonging and identity (taha wairua).
With the support of our whānau, we are creating a nurturing environment where tamariki grow as confident learners, communicators and thinkers, building a strong foundation for school and lifelong learning.
