Fostering our local curriculum by creating connections within our community is important to us here at BestStart Te Awamutu. Last Tuesday we had the pleasure of welcoming Kerrin an educator from the Te Awamutu Museum to our preschool class.

This visit was a fantastic opportunity for our tamariki to delve into the local Māori myths and legends of the Waipa area, enriching and supporting our local curriculum. This visit provided an engaging and immersive learning experience for our tamariki - an experience that would help them develop an understanding of the stories and traditions that shape our local community.

Throughout this visit, our preschoolers had the opportunity to actively participate in storytelling and crafts, paving the way for imaginative exploration and creative expression. They were also able to get up close and personal with some special taonga from the museum.

To continue this wonderful learning journey, our centre will be participating in regular excursions to the museum in the new year and Kerrin will be back next term for another visit.
