Exploring with all our senses
Sensorial experiences provide our tamariki with extensive learning opportunities by allowing them to explore the textures / tastes / smells of a variety of objects in the world around them. Recently, many of our youngest tamariki have been exploring with paint. For some, this is a new experience and for others it’s an opportunity for them to revisit their previous experiences. As we teaching children to freely explore the paints, they begin to make sense of the world around them and how they can manipulate their bodies to serve their own ‘explorations’. The smiles on their faces have been a pleasure to observe and whanau have commented how these are ‘masterpieces’ which will be framed. These experiences support our philosophy where children are empowered to ‘develop tino rangatiratanga (ownership) of their own learning'.
