Did you know that Father's Day was first celebrated on June 19, 1910 in Washington?
Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to honour her father William Jackson Smart, a Civil War Veteran, who raised his children single-handedly. Her father would passionately talk about their mother's unconditional love, so Sonora wanted to commemorate the dedication her father showed his children after her mother's death.
Let's talk about father figures.
At BestStart Sir Tristram we shared stories about all the father figures in our lives during our hui, while eating our kai, and even out while playing. To show our father figures how much we appreciate all that they do for us we painted rocks to show them they rock our worlds!
We heard lots of stories about Dads and how they like to play, go swimming, and how hard they work. What we heard most was that our tamariki love their fathers and figures figures!
Those father figures who do the morning drop off were given some bacon/egg rolls or vegan friendly muffins.
