Festival Of Lights- Diwali celebrations!
We at Best Start Kauri Flats welcome children and whanau from various cultural backgrounds and provide a valued and meaningful learning environment.
The children from different cultures mixing and mingling with one another in the same centre begin to develop their self-concept. To form positive self-concepts, children must honor and respect their own families and cultures. To celebrate cultural diversity, we celebrate various language weeks as well as festivals. Recently, we celebrated Diwali with enthusiasm and joy.
The children got the opportunity to know that this festival represents the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The children participated in various art activities where they made Diyas with salt dough and decorated them with paint and glitter. The children learned about ‘Rangoli’ (an art of decoration drawn on the floor by using powdered color) and Henna tattoos.
The cultural dance performances of children and teachers filled us with cherished memories. Our Tamariki and Kaiako were invited to wear traditional Indian attire, providing an opportunity to show respect, love, and regard to each other along with acknowledging the traditional values.
Thus, the colorful decoration, and bright colored dress–ups, together reflected the light and illumination – the core meaning of Diwali.
