Today we had a  surprise evacuation (after Shar accidently burnt some of our lunch!) when the fire alarm went off this morning.

The tamariki and kaiako did a fantastic job of getting out of the building and to our meeting place safely and calmly, even though many of us got our socks wet due to the rain!

While we waited for the fire men to arrive, we enjoyed singing lots of our favorite mat time songs.  It didn't take long before we could hear the sirens as the fire truck approached.

The children were very excited about this and even more excited to see the fire truck as it pulled into the carpark! Even with this excitement, our tamariki remained where they were, watching from the safe distance of our evacuation point as the fire men went into the centre to make sure it was safe for us to reenter  It was great to see how well the children have learnt and understood our fire evacuation procedure from our regular fire drills!

Once the firemen had checked the building, they came outside and talked to the children about the importance of fire alarms and praised them for an excellent fire evacuation!
