Five Days of the Week at BestStart Meadowbank
At Beststart Meadowbank learning is fun and we do it through our "Five Days of the Week" Programme. We have Rise and Shine Mondays, Creative Tuesdays, Workout Wednesdays, Laidback Thursdays, and Fun Fridays.
Rise and Shine Mondays are Show and tell days for Tui room. Show and tell gives children an opportunity to stand up in front of their friends and speak about a topic that interests them or share something that they love. It builds confidence helps children develop effective communication skills and encourages emotional development It is action song day for the Manawa room that involves the use of rhymes and body movements that promote the development of oral language. They learn new songs and their actions which encourage children to use their fingers, hands, and bodies for movements, which helps to develop fine and gross motor skills.
Creative Tuesdays are Messy Art days. The visual arts can help children to communicate ideas that cannot be expressed verbally. Art Stimulates creativity and problem-solving Skills and promotes self-esteem and self-expression. Workout Wednesdays are for Physical play, any small or big movements that get children moving in their environment and expending energy. Laidback Thursdays are reading days. Children are allowed to bring their favorite books and read in our cozy quiet/ reading corner. Reading and storytelling with babies and children promotes brain development and imagination, develops language and emotions, and strengthens relationships.
We end the week with our Fun Fridays. Tui Room has fun with experiments. They choose to experiment with baking or with science. Experiments are a blast for kids of all ages, and they offer a fantastic introduction for young children to the wonders of the world around them. Manawa rooms have sensory play, exploring their world through their senses. Sensory play also helps babies learn more about the world around them and supports language development as they learn to respond to different stimuli.
Learning through play forms the pedagogical foundation of Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum. At Beststart Meadowbank teachers support children in play-based learning by providing an enabling environment and through sensitive interaction where they discuss, embed, and extend the learning with children.
