Focus on Tikanga
Our current group planning is a focus on Rules/ Tikanga, Respect/ Kindness/ Care/ Manakitanga of people, our classroom and our equipment so that our room can continue to be a safe, fun and happy learning environment.
Our focus is on tikanga (rules) with positive acknowledgement of making kind/ "good" choices. When a child's photo is up on the wall it means they were chosen to be the Kaiawhena for the day. This means that they have been demonstrating the values, rules and manakitanga and will get to wear the special Koru necklace as well as choose a friend to sit at, at the special Kaiawhenua table.
When we are angry, frustrated, upset etc (big emotions) how can we calm ourselves? Kaiako will be teaching breathing exercises and creating a quiet space to regulate with support from teachers. Also included in this group learning we will be promoting independence, confidence and social skills, all important skills needed for their next step in the learning journey of school.
