Force and Motion
FORCE
MOTION

Recently in the Tipu room our Tamariki have been exploring force an motion through the use of cars and ramps on a track.

Kaiako gathered the required resources including small logs, animals, trees and cars/trucks and created a track out of a piece of cardboard. They put this on the table and made a ramp with a higher table placed at the end.

This is a great way for children to develop foundational skills in the use of science practices, such as observing, asking questions, solving problems and drawing conclusions. This also supports communication between children as they discuss their ideas with each other. Kaiako ensure that following on from this there are resources available so that tamariki can revisit these ideas in their own time to expand and enhance their learning. Kaiako can encourage children to make predictions about specific changes to the ramps, using language that refers to height, length and angle.

Our kaiako know what tamariki are interested in so that they can create provocations for them to scaffold their learning journey throughout their days here at Styx Mill.
