Here in the Researchers' Room, we have a little tradition of making our very own friendship bread.
Our tamariki work together to read the recipe, find the ingredients, count and measure them all out and bring it all together in the breadmaker.
Then we wait very patiently as the smell of fresh bread fills the room. Our friendship bread is then gifted, either to new families that have new babies at home or sometimes even take them to the neighbour for throwing our balls back over the fence.
It is gifted from the heart and received in the same manner. Today, we decided we wanted to share our friendship bread with our friends in the Researchers and Investigators. So, we cut it up and everyone got to make their very own little piece of fairy bread.
Each child had to butter their own little slice and took great pleasure in dunking it into the sprinkles. Not only did this little activity align with our vision and centre learning priority of Kindness as we shared our delicious bread with everyone - it also sat nicely under confidence, as well as our friends developed their independence, holding their tongues just right as they held their knives carefully and spread their butter from one side to the other.
There were plenty of ‘I did it myself’ moments from our Investigators and lots of ‘I can help you’ moments from our Researchers. Who would have thought that one little loaf of bread could hold so much learning, kindness and confidence!
