The children have really enjoyed exploring with paint recently. It has also been very warm so, I thought I would combine the two and freeze some watered-down paint for the children to explore on a hot day.

I put the frozen paint outside in the clam shell with some jugs and the ice trays and some other kitchen toys. The children really enjoyed sorting, stacking and watching the colours melt into each other.

Exploration with paint aids in children's basic understanding of science. For example, this learning experience exposed the children to the idea of mixing two different colours to make new colours as well as the idea that something can be one thing, but then become another (ice as well as water). Encouraging children at a young age to participate in such experiences encourages them to have the confidence to explore and experiment in all areas of play.
