Today the preschool went for a walk to the park, at Temuka Domain. It was a lovely warm day and we all enjoyed the walk to the park and seeing the diggers and trucks on the side of the road. The tamariki were supported to challenge their physical skills on some of the larger playground equipment. After mastering the monkey bars at BestStart Opihi, some of the older tamariki/ children were confident to try the bigger monkey bars at the park. After exploring the bars, slide, swings, sea saw, round about, witches hat, tractor and lots of climbing we went to see the bird Avery. The tamariki spotted some eggs on the ground that one of the birds had laid. This was a great conversation starter as we all discussed who we thought the mother bird could be. The tamriki always have an amazing time when we get to walk through our community and visit the park.

At BestStart Opihi, we believe in ' little feet, taking big leaps'. We provide support and challenges for tamariki to take responsible risks and challenge their motor skills. Te Whāriki, our early childhood curriculum states that an important part of children's development is having opportunities to explore gaining confidence in and control of their bodies.
