February has been another fun filled busy month here at BestStart Havelock North. We have welcomed new families, celebrated Chinese New Year and Art Deco, and helped with the harvest of vegetables and fruit from our gardens.

  1. The Year of the Tiger.
  2. How did we Deco?
  3. Harvest time.

Chinese New Year 2022 is the year of the Tiger. We made masks and lanterns, listened to traditional music and learnt all about the legend of Nian. Our celebrations culminated with our very own dragon dance accompanied by a band of very noisy drummers.

Art Deco was celebrated in style with dress ups of feathers boas, braces and boaters. Dancing to the music of the 20’s and 30’s, a pop- up lemonade shop and our annual soap box derby races which the children really enjoyed.

The recent warm weather and rain has made our vegetable gardens grow and flourish, and the children have been involved harvesting corn, beans, tomatoes and cucumbers which we have enjoyed with our lunches, some children even taking produce home to share with their whānau.
