Fun with Fire Engines!
After a recent visit from firefighter Kevin, firefighter AJ and one of their fire engines, the kaiako have been providing the tamariki at BestStart Oamaru Kindy opportunities to act out what they have experienced through their play. One way that we extended on this recent visit from the firefighters and fire engine was by providing ‘fire engine’ costumes for our tamariki to explore.
Through acting out the role of firefighter/fire truck the tamariki are engaging in dramatic play that encourages their developing ability to be expressive of their own feelings and the feelings of others. While we were role-playing the tamariki were also practicing socialising and communicating with their peers. We had so much fun running around and protecting our peers by putting out fires all around the playground!
